Artemisia (sweet Annie) is antiviral, helps to reduce fever, is effective in the treatment of malaria, and recent research shows that it may be effective against cancer and has also shown promise in treating leukemia. 

Burdock A general strengthening tonic for the liver and digestive system. Burdock is a powerful detoxifier, boosts metabolism and clears out the skin. It can be a treatment for staph infections, impetigo and obstinate ulcerations of the skin of mucous membranes. Echinacea boosts immunity and combats colds and flu. Useful in treating the early phases of bacterial or viral infection, echinacea speeds resolution of colds, flu, and all kinds of upper respiratory infection. Dementia: People with early stage Alzheimer’s disease and multi-infarct dementia may benefit from taking Ginkgo biloba. The scientific research shows that Ginkgo biloba may be as effective as some of the prescription medications for these conditions.

Cerebral Insufficiency: Using Ginkgo biloba for a condition called cerebral insufficiency holds promise. Cerebral insufficiency is a syndrome more commonly diagnosed in Europe that involves poor concentration, confusion, forgetfulness, headaches, fatigue, depression and anxiety. Some researchers believe that this condition is caused by a decrease in the amount of blood available to the brain because of clogged blood vessels.

Age-related Memory Loss: Protecting memory from aging is the most popular use of Ginkgo biloba. The research is not clear on the benefits for this use. As we saw above, Ginkgo biloba can be useful in reducing the impact of early stage Alzheimer’s and some forms of dementia. When age-related memory loss is caused by these conditions, Ginkgo biloba may help.

Depression and Seasonal Affective Disorder: Some of the most promising research in this area involves older adults with depression.

Macular Degeneration: Ginkgo biloba may improve blood flow to the eye, which could help lessen the effects of macular degeneration .

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS): Some preliminary research shows that Ginkgo biloba might ease PMS symptoms such as breast discomfort and emotional shifts.

Gotu Kola Considered a super herb, Gotu Kola is packed with antioxidants. It is useful in high blood pressure, heart disease, improving memory and concentration, nervous disorders. Alzheimer’s disease, fatigue and depression, rebuilding energy stores and stimulating hair growth.

Gotu Kola is considered a rejuvenative nervine recommended for nervous disorders, including epilepsy, senility, insomnia and premature aging.

As a brain tonic, it is said to enhance intelligence and memory while strengthening the adrenal glands.

It is used quite often to help treat people with stress and depression but has many more health benefits than that. Gotu Kola helps to cleanse the blood and treat skin impurities. It improves the nervous, digestive and circulatory system; ultimately rebuilding energy reserves.

Gotu Kola can relieve high blood pressure and is effective in treating rheumatism, blood diseases, congestive heart failure, urinary tract infections, venereal diseases and hepatitis.

The primary active constituents in Gotu Kola are the triterpenoid compounds. These saponins help to strengthen the walls of blood vessels which improves the flow of blood while strengthening the veins and capillaries. It has been used successfully to treat varicose vein, leg cramps, scars, hemorrhoids, retinopathy (decreased eye site) and abnormal tingling of the extremities.

These same effects are thought to strengthen the lining of the GI tract (intestines), making gotu kola useful for treating ulcers.

Gotu Kola also contains calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, silicon, zinc, vitamins A, B1, B2, B3 and C . Gotu kola has strong anti-bacterial properties which have been used to heal sores and treat leprosy.

HAWTHORN is the oldest and safest blood pressure regulator. It is used to treat both low and high blood pressure, hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis), and high cholesterol. It strengthens and nourishes the heart and blood vessels and improves circulation.

Being an overall heart tonic it is used for diseases of the heart and blood vessels such as congestive heart failure (CHF), chest pain, and irregular heartbeat. There are no known side effects to taking this extract and it can be taken long term.  

Herbal Bitters Ingredients: burdock root, dandelion root, artichoke leaf, fennel seed, cinnamon bark, ginger root, alcohol, water.

Milk thistle detoxifies and protects the liver from toxins and pollutants. It is the most effective herb to lower bad cholesterol. Nettle extract protects the respiratory system, and helps in kidney and urinary problems. Its natural antihistamines make it helpful in allergies and hayfever.  Red clover is used to treat skin conditions, normally in combination with other purifying herbs such as burdock (Arctium lappa) and yellow dock (Rumex crispus). Red clover is also expectorant and may be used for spasmodic coughs. Red clover’s estrogenic effect may be of use in treating menopausal complaints.

This herbal extract helps you fall asleep faster, improves sleep quality without a hangover effect, relieves anxiety, nervousness and excitability, palpitations, irregular heartbeat, headaches, stress and restlessness. St. Johns Wort has a demonstrated ability to act as an antidepressant in cases of mild depression and anxiety.S t. John’s Wort is a tonic for the entire nervous system. This action is most strongly linked to two phytochemicals, hyperforin and hypericin. St. Johns was a useful member of the pharmacopoeia centuries before its use as an antidepressant was discovered.   Taking the tincture before bedtime can help children and adults troubled by incontinence, and M. Grieve recommended it be used in all pulmonary complaints, bladder troubles, in suppression of the urine, dysentery, worms, and diarrhea. 

St. John’s is also effective in the treatment of herpes lesions. Compresses soaked in a strong tea, the infused oil or a tincture can be applied to active lesions.

St. John’s wort does not combine well with many medications, therefore always consult your herbalist before taking it. May cause photosensitivity.

Tribulus Terrestris extract enhances libido in men and women, helps in male infertility and impotence by increasing testosterone levels, sperm production and sperm quality. 
It is a gerenal tonic increasing energy and vitality, builds muscle tone and strength. Tribulus relaxes smooth muscles and improves the circulation in the genital region of both men and women, leading to improved sexual response. For women, the hormone balancing effects of Tribulus terrestris make this a suitable herb for premenstrual syndrome and menopause symptoms. Vitex is a normalizing herb for the female reproductive system, a regulator of the hormonal balance of estrogen and progesterone. This normalizing of hormones is what makes the herb valuable in treating painful and irregular periods, PMS, polycystic ovarian syndrome, all stages and symptoms of the menopause, and infertility. For chronic problems, it is most effective when taken over a prolonged period of time. Traditionally used to help support hormone production and maintain a healthy menstrual cycle, vitex is able to support hormonal balance in the body without containing any hormones itself.

As a hemostatic, Yarrow helps to stop bleeding of stomach ulcers, hemorrhoids, and for nosebleeds (especially those due to allergies). Yarrow is an ally for women as it helps to tone the uterus and promote balance in their menstrual flow. Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, it helps to relieve the dull, achy menstrual pains; it also helps with postpartum bleeding and abnormal flows by acting as a hemostatic.
Like all diaphoretics, Yarrow increases blood flow to the skin and lowers blood pressure in the process. Other internal uses may include: to help clear blood clots; rheumatism; lung congestion; chronic cystitis and urethritis; mucus discharge of the bladder; nephritis (Bright’s disease); smallpox; chicken pox; glandular imbalances; and diabetes. Due to its high level of tannins, Yarrow is also an excellent wound healer. External uses include: Athlete’s Foot; wounds; muscle and joint pain and inflammation; bleeding; toothaches and gum infections.
